Figurative Language

Figurative Language is used to create a picture in the reader's mind. It gives more meaning than literal language.

  • Explanation video of Figurative Language compared to Literal Language
  • Similes - comparisons between two different objects, using like, as, or than
  • Metaphors - comparisons between two different objects, saying one thing is or was the other
  • Idioms - phrases that mean something very different from what the words seem to say
  • Personification - giving human characteristics or traits to nonliving objects
